Chiropractic adjustments are gentle and comfortable when performed correctly by a qualified chiropractor. However, as your body realigned and your muscles re-balance themselves after the adjustment, some people reported experiencing a small degree of soreness. At Chan Family Chiropractic, our doctors are well qualified in a variety of techniques. We will select the most suitable techniques to perform the adjustments based on the patient’s comfort level and presentation of symptoms.

Most patients reported an improved level of mood, energy level and mental clarity when they undergo regular chiropractic care. Of course, different patients responded differently. Depending on the severity or chronicity of your complaint, patient may report varying degrees of pain relief.

During your initial visit, our doctors at Chan Family Chiropractic focus on establishing a comprehensive understanding of your health concerns to make recommendations that can address those concerns. This includes completion of a New Patient Registration form, New Patient Orientation, focused case history, a physical examination and an accurate spinal examination.

The visit will take about 60-90 minutes and we recommend that you wear loose comfortable attire for the physical examination and a pair of walking shoes. If due to work commitments you are unable to wear walking shoes, please bring a pair of clean socks as an alternative. The reason for the footwear is because the doctors need to perform some neurological checks based on leg length analysis for the spinal examination. Please also bring along any pertinent recent medical records or images (e.g. X-rays or MRI).

We recommend you arrive fifteen minutes early for your first visit to allow you time to complete the required paperwork. Or alternatively, complete the paperwork electronically prior to the appointment.

The goal of the first visit is to collect information regarding your health concerns for diagnostic purposes and any spinal adjustment will be performed based on clinical findings. After the first visit, the doctors will go over the clinical findings of your physical and spinal examinations and prepare a report of findings to present to you at the second visit. At Chan Family Chiropractic, we empower our patients with information about their health status and encourage them to participate an active role in their own health.

During your 2nd visit, a report of findings from your case history, physical examination and spinal examination will be presented to you by our doctors. Our doctors will explain the findings, our recommended care plan and answer any pertinent questions you may have.

The report of finding aims to explain the following:
•    Significant health concerns based on examination findings
•    Possible factors that may cause the problems
•    Recommendations to address the health concerns
•    What can be expected from during the healing process

Following this, we will then proceed with your spinal examination and perform any adjustment as necessary. Your second visit should take approximately 30 minutes.

Once the doctors at Chan Family Chiropractic have established a comprehensive understanding of your health concerns and you have accepted our proposed recommendations, a regular visit is a breeze!

During a regular visit, our doctors will conduct a focused spinal examination and perform the necessary adjustments. A typical visit takes about 10-15 minutes. However, if during a particular visit, you require additional investigation of new complaint(s) and other modalities such as soft tissue work due to new injuries, it will be longer and additional charges apply.

Phases of Care

Healing needs time and everyone heals at a different rate. Some patients reported immediate relief while others may notice a gradual improvement over weeks or months. However, it is common to go through the following phases in your healing process. When you achieve each milestone phase, our doctors at Chan Family Chiropractic will review your health goals and make recommendations to empower you to move on to the next phase of healing.

If you have never been under chiropractic care or have lapsed in your regular spinal health check, it is likely that there are multiple unresolved health concerns. You may be experiencing acute or chronic pain in one or more areas in your body. Our objective is to kick start your healing process. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is common to need care 2-3 times per week for 3-4 weeks and then 1-2 times for the next 4-5 weeks.

During this phase, the initial crisis of your pressing health concerns is resolved and your body is ready to move on to a deeper level of healing. Our objective is to correct the structural dysfunction that your body may be accustomed to and address chronic muscles and other soft tissues imbalance. This involves re-educating your body towards a proper posture and at the same time resolving new subluxations as soon as possible so that your nervous system is tuned up for cellular repairs. This phase is crucial to prevent re-occurrence of the old problems. It is common to need care 2-4 times per month for 6 months, depending on your lifestyle and your overall health.

Congratulation! This is the final phase of your healing process. During this phase, your body has managed to resolve most of your health concerns. Depending on your lifestyle, you only require spinal checks 1-2 times per month to make sure that your nervous system is always at its 100%!

Just like your muscles need regular workout to maintain their tone, your spine needs regular chiropractic care to maintain their normal structure and function. Regular chiropractic care focus on removing any nerve interferences caused by spinal misalignments (vertebral subluxations) so there can be optimum communication throughout the nervous system. This maximizes your innate ability to heal!
